New Clinical Building Update

As the community may be aware, BACHS has received funding from the Federal Government to build a new Primary Health Care Clinic. Up until October 2023, things were progressing well with BACHS engaging project managers and architects to assist in the development process of the new build. An initial building scope of services and facilities has been prepared and the architects had produced a plan for the building’s layout.

Following some initial cost estimations from a Quantity Surveyor, the costs to produce the envisaged layout had increased significantly from the original price quoted due to large cost escalations post COVID.

Round 2 of the Major Capital Works funding has been released and BACHS has made a decision to apply for further funding to hopefully bridge the shortfall of funding in the previous funding round. It is not expected BACHS will know if it has been successful or accepted in the next phase until Jan/Feb 2024. Because of this timing, the BACHS Board has made a practical decision to pause work on the new clinic until we know this Round 2 outcome. It was felt this was the best approach to avoid wasting money and undertaking work which may not be required.

BACHS will ensure to keep the community up to date with any further information and news regarding the new build as it comes.
