Our BACHS R U OK? Day picnic brought our community together in Central Park, underneath the rotunda, for an afternoon filled with connection, conversation, and care. We were so grateful to everyone who joined us for a day dedicated to healing, supporting one another, and checking in on how we’re all doing.
The picnic wasn’t just about sharing food and stories—it was about reinforcing the importance of mental health and the power of simply asking, “R U OK?” Sometimes, a conversation is all it takes to change someone’s life. The R U OK? message reminds us that we don’t need to be experts to support those who may be struggling—just being a caring friend and a great listener can make a world of difference.
Did You Know? A Conversation Can Change a Life
R U OK? is all about inspiring and empowering people to have meaningful conversations with those who may be struggling with life. It’s not about offering solutions or advice but rather being present, listening, and encouraging action when it’s needed.
If you’re not sure how to start a conversation that could make a real difference, follow these four simple steps:
- Ask R U OK?
Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone who might seem off or disconnected. A simple “R U OK?” can open the door to an important conversation. - Listen Without Judgment
Be there to listen to what they have to say. Sometimes, just being heard is the first step in helping someone feel better. - Encourage Action
Encourage the person to think about what they could do to improve their situation or who they could talk to for support. - Check In
After your initial conversation, follow up with them. A simple check-in later on shows you genuinely care and are there to support them.
Stay Connected
We’re incredibly proud of the BACHS community for showing up and making sure we’re all doing OK. Remember, the conversation doesn’t end at the picnic. If you or someone you know could use a hand, don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s keep checking in on each other—every day, not just on R U OK? Day.
And don’t forget—FREE transport to future events is always available by calling BACHS on 02 6872 3088.
