The Men of Bourke Forum returned for 2025 with powerful momentum, bringing together men from across the region on 16–17 June for two days of deep conversation, cultural connection and community healing.
Presented by BACHS and community partners, the forum was held at Bourke Christian Church and welcomed men of all backgrounds. With a full program of keynote speakers, panel discussions, hands-on workshops and creative sessions, the event focused on men’s wellbeing, identity and the strength that comes from sharing stories.
“Too many of our men carry things in silence – pain, pressure, past hurt,” said Jay Forrester, CEO of BACHS. “This forum gives them a space to let some of that go, to speak freely, to be heard.”
From conflict resolution roleplay to art-making and cultural conversations, the program gave participants practical tools for dealing with everyday challenges and celebrated the power of coming together. The event also offered free meals and live entertainment, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment.
One of the most anticipated moments came on Day Two with the appearance of Mitch Tambo – acclaimed First Nations entertainer and proud Gamilaraay man. Mitch delivered a keynote address in the morning. Blending traditional language, storytelling and contemporary music, Mitch brought a heartfelt message of resilience.
“This forum is about healing, it’s about truth and it’s about standing strong in culture,” Jay Forrester added. “Mitch brings a message that aligns with all of that. He speaks to the power of story and identity, and we’re proud to have him as part of this year’s event.”
Also joining the forum were respected voices like Gavin Gibbs and Corey Anderson, along with cultural facilitators, local artists and service providers including CatholicCare Wilcannia-Forbes and the Western NSW Local Health District.
Following the success of last year’s forum, the 2025 event built on that foundation with even greater participation, energy and openness. It was a space for real conversations — about trauma, family, mental health, and finding strength in culture.
BACHS thanks everyone who helped bring the forum to life — the speakers, facilitators, volunteers, and especially the men who showed up ready to connect, share and grow.
